For two years the children of the Mukambi Community school have had lessons in an old army tent. First on the ground, but lately on real wooden school benches.
With aid from the Foundation the inhabitants of the village have made more than 9000 bricks to build the school with.

The children are waiting excitedly and come every day to have a look at the working men and women.
The construction of the school has been filmed for months. Harko is making the documentary `From Amstelveen to Africa (Dutch TV)’ about the safari-lodge of Mukambi next to the Kafue river.
The school is almost ready. On the day before the official opening there is a lot of hard work to construct a real toilet buidling. The windows are placed in the frames and the floor is treated with petroleum.
On the day of the official opening the children are all wearing their school uniform and are waiting together with the teachers for the party to begin.
The children sing the Zambian national anthem next to the flag. Afterwards there are many speakers who tell how happy they are with the new school. Also Kees Both, initiator of our Foundation, tells how proud he is.
The children of the school make a real party of it all. They sing some songs and and one verse using the lyrics of `Happy Birthday Mukambi.
The children of the Marijke School from Hillegom have raised € 1300.00 for the Mukambi Community School. Dennis Kleijn handed over the cheque to one of the teachers. One of them also receives a group photograph with all children of the Marijke School. This will be placed on the wall in the new school as a souvenir.
The ambassador of the Netherlands in Zambia, his Excellency Mr. E. Middeldorp, opens the school by cutting through the ribbon. After a loud applause everyone can make a tour of the school.

After looking around the school and having had a nice lunch, it is time for some entertainment. The children play basketball and handball.
All the children were also given a real school bag to take work home.
